Families with small children are very familiar with the problem, but soon many companies will also have to deal with it: plastic utensils. In particular, the new SUP (Single Use Plastics) directive It will ensure that we need to approach plastic more sustainably. Responsible recycling is an option, but why recycle if you can also reuse? But how do you clean and dry plastic properly?
Manual vs automatic washing
Hand washing plastic dishes is an option, for example in a sink. However, this requires relatively much time and is not optimal from a hygienic perspective due to the lack of thermal disinfection with hot water in the rinse cycle. Partly due to this, hand drying also requires extra attention. Therefore, we recommend automatic washing.
Dishwashing detergents
Most plastic types can handle a lot. The professional dishwashing detergents from Spectro are definitely suitable for washing them. However, it is important to determine beforehand what the (hygienic) contamination is and how long the waiting time is for the contaminated dishes before washing. Both factors are, in fact, highly dependent on the choice of the detergent.
Drugs
The biggest challenge with washing plastic dishes is drying them. This is because plastic dishes are much more ‘water repellent’ (technically called hydrophobic) than, for example, glass or ceramic. This results in droplets forming on the surface instead of an easily rinsed water film. Additionally, plastic dishes absorb temperature much more easily than traditional dishes, making traditional dishes more easily dry. Specifically for this application, Spectro Rinse Aid Extra and Ecodos Rinse Aid Extra developed. This ensures perfect drying of plastic but can also be used for regular dishes.
Dosage and setting
However, using the right detergent is only part of the solution. It is at least as important to use the correct dosage and settings in the professional dishwasher. Fortunately, Spectro has extensive expertise in this area. For example, we produce and install professional dosing equipment that not only ensures the exact right dosage but also monitors the washing process.

Professional dishwashers, and especially plastic dishes, require a custom-made solution. For example, polycarbonate (PC) or polypropylene (PE) cups dry differently from, for example, polypropylene (PP) plates. View Here are our dishwashing products and concepts.
