Sustainability is in our genes

Blog: ASP Certification: what should I do with it?

Spectro is an authentic Dutch company. But did you know that we also have a passport for sustainable business practices? Four of our cleaning products are even ASP-certified. But what does that actually mean? And what does it mean for our customers? The words of MVO coordinator Maria Rijsdijk.

When it comes to sustainability, we set very high standards at Spectro. Not for nothing did we join the AISE in 2011: a European umbrella organization for companies that produce sustainably on all fronts. “By doing so, we committed ourselves to sustainable business practices,” Maria explains. “Since then, we have done a lot to reduce our impact on the environment. Take the quartet of ASP-certified products, that’s a good example of this.”

Thoroughly tested

By that, Maria is referring to three Ecodos products: the liter bottles Interior, Floor and Toilet Cleaner. One on the Toilet Cleaner Eco. “Those four cleaning products have been thoroughly tested for their environmental impact,” she explains. “The starting point is a Life Cycle Assessment: where the most relevant environmental impact is addressed. The dosing bottles are also made from recycled material. And our production process is completely energy-neutral thanks to the solar panels on our roof.”

Crystals

But we are going much further in our sustainable approach. “We even collect the empty bottles ourselves to clean them or to shred them,” said Maria. “The flakes The leftovers are processed into granules which are then used to make dosing bottles. A first in the Netherlands.”

“At Spectro, we like to keep up with the troops”

Innovation Prize

Sustainability is not just about recycling and energy savings. At Spectro, we also think about the ergonomics of our products. Maria: “The handle of our bottles is designed so that they are easy to handle. This has earned us a nomination for the innovation award at the world’s largest cleaning fair: Interclean Amsterdam. Unfortunately, we didn’t win it, but we are still very proud. Little is impossible, as this achievement proves. We do it because sustainability is in our DNA. We feel responsible for the well-being of people and the world.’

A matter of sorting out beforehand

Maria notes that customers still have to get used to the many certifications and labels that exist. Not to mention their meaning. While these can reveal a lot about the sustainability of a product, such as the ASP certification. “The unknown makes the ignorant,” concludes our CSR coordinator. “And in the end, costs also play a role. But by choosing sustainable business practices in a very conscious way, we are prepared for the legislation of the future. Ultimately, everyone has to get on board. So we are happy to lead the way.”
