Nowadays, a car or truck can be washed with peace of mind in a modern car wash. Fortunately, the new generations of brushes, detailed cleaning techniques and high-tech tools have solved this problem. However, we are currently seeing another problem looming: damaged aluminum.
Cars with beautiful shiny trim strips, sports rims, roof trims, emblems and door panels. But also fuel tanks, side screens and trim strips from trucks to complete tank cars are (often) made of fragile aluminum or other lightweight metals. When using the wrong products, aluminum tarnishes and can discolor, which is then almost impossible to repair. How does this happen and what can you do about it?
1. Aluminum alloys become more vulnerable
On the one hand, due to the intrinsic motivation of (freight)autoproducer companies to further reduce weight, but also due to the scarcity of raw materials, aluminum components are becoming increasingly lighter. However, this makes the components more vulnerable to external factors.
2. Cleaning product manufacturers save on ingredients
Strongly alkaline pre-cleaners and truck cleaners With high soap concentrations, these contaminants are often the cause of this damage in car and truck washes. However, they can be eliminated by formulating them wisely and adding additional aluminum-protective ingredients. However, due to scarcity, these raw materials have become very expensive, and we are seeing many cleaning product manufacturers currently cutting back on them.
3. Heat and compliance
Aluminium and paints are particularly sensitive to heat. It is therefore always advisable to cool the paint first, for example with clean water, before you start washing. Furthermore, never use a solvent that could cause (irreparable) damage.

Ironically, most of the explanations (in part) seem to be related to the scarcity of raw materials. It is therefore important to make the right choices in this regard. Our team has handy tools to help you identify products that contain aluminum. Looking for honest advice? Then Contact with us.
