From 2021, it will be mandatory to provide new classified cleaning products with a so-called UFI code.
New European obligation
This replaces the requirement to provide information to all national anti-poison centres. From 2025, it must also be implemented on existing cleaning products. An UFI is a unique formula identifier (16 characters) to which information is linked about the product and its use, the ingredients and its toxicity. Thanks to this code, medical staff can provide advice on the correct treatment more easily and quickly. Additionally, you must provide additional information (and costs) for each individual country where the product is placed on the market.
More and more UFI codes
The UFI code will appear on an increasing number of products from Spectro and private labels in the coming time. This drastic new legislation is a concrete example of the ever-increasing regulatory pressure. That means that as Spectro, we will be critically reviewing our product range over the coming year and, for example, we will have to convert small items and special recipes into standardized formulas in consultation with you as a customer. Furthermore, some countries charge hefty fees for this registration. These will be charged to private labels; for Belgium, this amounts to €200 per recipe. Safety Data Sheets (Safety information sheets)
As a manufacturer, we are required to provide you with current SDSs. We do this by using a recently updated automatic system and always starting with the first delivery and the next delivery where a change to the product has occurred. The UFI mentioned above will also appear on the SDS. Furthermore, we notice that the emails with the SDS are sometimes overlooked and as a result we regularly receive requests for current copies. To make this easier, we have created an online database for the Spectro products, where you can download the most up-to-date SDS in Dutch, English, French and German.
