It’s hand-washing day! But do you know who invented this?

Now found only on a Hungarian or Austrian stamp, but Ignaz Semmelweis (1818 – 1865) had an important role in the beginning of hand washing.

At the time, the Hungarian physician was deeply concerned about maternal fever and linked it to unhygienic habits in the hospital where he worked. Semmelweis demanded that everyone wash their hands in bleach before examinations in the maternity ward.

Many years later, we now know the importance of good hygiene and have great hand soap products available!
